FG Approves New NYSC Mandatory Regulations, Effective October 6

By Erewunmi Peace
The Federal Government has approved new regulations making thesis and project submission a mandatory requirement for participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to a circular issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, graduates will now be required to upload their final year projects, dissertations, or theses to the National Education Repository and Databank (NERD) before they can be mobilized for service or granted exemption.
The directive, backed by sections of the NYSC Act, takes effect on October 6, 2025. It will apply to all prospective corps members from that date forward but will not affect those currently serving or already mobilized.
Government officials say the new measure is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s academic repository, curbing plagiarism, and ensuring proper documentation of intellectual work.
The NYSC management is expected to release further details in the coming days on how graduates and institutions can comply with the process.
