First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Arrives Katsina for Buhari’s Funeral

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has arrived in Katsina State to attend the funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday,13 of July 2025
Her arrival comes alongside other top dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and several state governors, ministers, and traditional leaders. The former president is being buried today in his hometown of Daura, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The First Lady, dressed in mourning attire, was received by senior government officials and members of the Buhari family at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina.
A Nation in Mourning
The passing of President Buhari, aged 82, marks the end of an era in Nigerian politics. Having served as a military Head of State (1983–1985) and later as a two-term civilian President (2015–2023), Buhari was known for his emphasis on anti-corruption, security, and agricultural development.
His body was flown into Katsina early this morning from the United Kingdom, where he had been receiving treatment. According to the presidency, his death followed complications from age-related illness.
A statement released by the presidency said
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with integrity and dedication. He will be laid to rest in his ancestral home, Daura, today.”
National Honors and Tributes
President Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning, with flags flying at half-mast across the country. Tributes have poured in from world leaders, Nigerian citizens, and political allies.
In a brief statement, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu expressed condolences to the Buhari family and hailed the late president as “a disciplined leader who gave his best to Nigeria.”
Security has been tightened in Katsina, especially around Daura, as dignitaries and mourners gather to pay their final respects.
