Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, former Governor of Oyo State, has been officially crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland following a highly anticipated traditional ceremony.
The coronation took place at Ose Meji Temple, located in Ibadan South-East LGA, after an earlier ritual in which Ladoja received the Akoko leaf at Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba — a customary rite in the ascension process.
Governor Seyi Makinde is scheduled to formally present the staff and instrument of office to the new monarch at the historic Mapo Hall as part of the installation rites.
Ladoja’s ascension fills the vacancy left by the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on 7 July 2025.
The coronation was attended by many dignitaries and traditional rulers, including the Alaafin of Oyo, the Soun of Ogbomoso, and other Yoruba monarchs and elite personalities.
The event was held under tight security, highlighting the importance and sensitivity of the process.
