By Erewunmi Peace
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has impounded 27 buses and other vehicles for overloading and violating road safety regulations, officials confirmed.
The enforcement exercise was carried out as part of LASTMA’s statewide drive to curb dangerous traffic practices, especially overloading, which poses significant safety risks to commuters and other road users. The operation focused on busy routes and transport hubs across the city.
According to LASTMA, the impounded vehicles included both commercial buses (Danfo) and some private vehicles found carrying more passengers than legally allowed.
Drivers caught in violation had their vehicles seized and were directed to report to designated LASTMA offices for clearance.
Officials stressed that overloading is a serious offense that compromises road safety, visibility, and traffic flow. Motorists are advised to strictly adhere to passenger limits and other traffic rules to avoid penalties.
LASTMA also encouraged Lagos residents to report overloading and other traffic violations through the agency’s official hotline or social media channels, as part of efforts to ensure safer roads for everyone.
