Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a Brazilian woman at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after intercepting a large consignment of heroin valued at about ₦3 billion.

According to the NDLEA, the suspect was apprehended upon arrival from Brazil via a connecting international flight.

A thorough search of her luggage led to the discovery of over 30 kilograms of heroin, concealed inside factory-sealed packs of coffee. The agency described the seizure as one of the largest heroin interceptions recorded at the Abuja airport.

In a related development, the NDLEA also announced a series of nationwide operations that resulted in the seizure of explosives and large quantities of illicit drugs across different states. These operations were carried out through intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search activities, and coordinated airport surveillance.

The agency said the nationwide seizures included drugs such as cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, while suspects linked to the illegal transportation of explosives were also arrested during highway interceptions.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks and preventing criminal activities that threaten national security.

He added that investigations into the arrests are ongoing and suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
