By Erewunmi Peace

The Nigeria Police Force has uncovered a large-scale telecommunications fraud valued at ₦7.7 billion and arrested six suspects in connection with the crime.

According to the police, the fraud was uncovered through investigations conducted by the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) following a petition from a telecommunications company over suspicious activities within its systems.

Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects allegedly gained unauthorised access to the company’s internal platforms, allowing them to illegally divert airtime and mobile data worth billions of naira over a period of time.

Police sources disclosed that several items were recovered during the operation, including laptops, mobile phones, electronic devices, and other assets believed to have been used in carrying out the fraudulent activities.

The police stated that the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Force reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting critical infrastructure, warning that individuals involved in digital fraud and financial crimes will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
