Popular Nigerian Activist, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident

Renowned Nigerian activist and labour leader, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Ota, Ogun State.
Reports confirm that the tragic incident occurred on Sunday, October 12, 2025, near his residence. He was reportedly hit by a speeding vehicle while crossing the road and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. He was 65 years old.
Comrade Aremu was a respected labour and civil rights activist, known for his unwavering commitment to democracy, workers’ rights, and social justice in Nigeria. He served as the Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF) and was an active member of the Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO), where he played a significant role in several pro-democracy struggles.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and various civil society organisations have expressed deep sorrow over his death, describing him as “a fearless voice for the oppressed” and “a pillar of Nigeria’s progressive movement.”
According to a family statement, burial arrangements have been fixed for October 23, 2025, with tributes planned by colleagues and activists nationwide.
His passing marks the end of a passionate era of advocacy and struggle for a fairer Nigeria.
