Segun Arinze Slams Self-Proclaimed Igbo Monarch in Ghana

Veteran Nollywood actor Segun Arinze has criticized a Nigerian man who declared himself as an Igbo king in Ghana, describing the move as disrespectful and inappropriate.
Speaking in an interview on Ghana’s Hitz FM, Arinze questioned why anyone would leave their hometown in Nigeria only to crown themselves as a monarch in another country.
“You leave your village, come to another man’s land and want to be Igwe there? It doesn’t work that way,” the actor said. He added that such acts undermine the cultural authority of the host nation and could create unnecessary tension.
Arinze urged Nigerians in Ghana to respect the country’s traditions and laws, warning against imposing foreign traditional titles that have no legal or cultural standing in Ghana.
The controversy follows growing debates around the recognition of self-styled chiefs and kings from foreign communities living in Ghana.
Segun Arinze’s comments have sparked reactions across social media, with many praising his stance while others argue that cultural associations abroad often adopt titles as a way of preserving their heritage.
