Tinubu Nominates General Christopher Musa as New Minister of Defence

By Erewunmi Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa, former Chief of Defence Staff, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

The nomination was contained in a letter sent to the Nigerian Senate, seeking confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.

Tinubu’s decision follows the resignation of the former Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who stepped down on health grounds.

According to the Presidency, General Musa’s appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture amid rising security challenges across the country.

If confirmed by the Senate, Musa will assume responsibility for coordinating Nigeria’s military operations, tackling terrorism, banditry, and other threats affecting national security.

General Musa previously served as the Chief of Defence Staff before retiring earlier this year. His nomination has generated interest nationwide as security remains one of the country’s most pressing concerns.

The Senate is expected to screen and decide on his appointment in the coming days.
