Troops Neutralise 80 Bandits in Kebbi State

By Erewunmi Peace

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised no fewer than 80 armed bandits during a fierce confrontation in Lakurawa village, Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State, according to multiple reports from local authorities.

The operation, which took place over the weekend, was launched after intelligence indicated that a large group of bandits attempted to infiltrate Kebbi from neighbouring Zamfara State. Soldiers engaged the armed men in an intense gun duel that lasted several hours.

Confirming the development, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, said the troops acted swiftly following credible intelligence reports. “The gallant troops successfully neutralised over 80 of the assailants and rescued two abducted persons. Several motorcycles and weapons were also recovered during the operation,” he said.

Sources within the security network described the encounter as one of the biggest anti-banditry operations in the state this year. Residents of nearby communities have reportedly praised the troops for their bravery and quick response, urging continued vigilance to prevent future attacks.

Although the military has not released an official statement confirming the exact number of casualties, reports from the scene and statements from state officials suggest that the operation dealt a significant blow to criminal networks operating around the Zamfara–Kebbi border.

The latest development underscores the federal government’s renewed security strategy to reclaim communities affected by banditry and restore peace in northern Nigeria. Meanwhile, security forces are said to be conducting follow-up patrols in the area to ensure no remnants of the armed group remain.
