The King Kosoko Royal Family has officially declared veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko as the Oloja of Lagos‑elect, following a traditional ceremony at the family palace in Ereko, Lagos Island.

During the event, senior members of the royal family presented Kosoko to family members and supporters, marking his emergence as the Oloja‑elect in accordance with palace customs.

The position of Oloja of Lagos has been vacant since the passing of Chief Adebola Ige in December 2017.

Jide Kosoko, a renowned actor and filmmaker with decades of contributions to the Nigerian film industry, will still require formal installation and approval by the Oba of Lagos as part of customary and state traditions before fully assuming the responsibilities of the office.

While the announcement has been widely celebrated, sources indicate that there are ongoing discussions within the wider royal lineage regarding succession. Some members of the family had earlier raised concerns and sought government intervention for another candidate for the title. Observers say these matters are being addressed in line with traditional protocols.

The Oloja of Lagos holds significant cultural and traditional influence, serving as a custodian of the city’s heritage and playing a role in local leadership and community development. Kosoko’s declaration has generated excitement among fans and citizens alike, highlighting the intersection of cultural heritage and public prominence.
