Paystack Terminates Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Over Resurfaced Misconduct Allegations
By Erewunmi Peace
Paystack has officially terminated the appointment of its co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following a wave of resurfaced social-media posts and allegations that raised concerns about the company’s reputation.
According to multiple confirmed reports from Nigerian news outlets, the fintech company informed Olubi of the termination on Saturday, November 22, 2025, citing significant reputational damage arising from old tweets and online allegations.
The controversial tweets—some dating as far back as 2009 to 2013—resurfaced on social media earlier this month, sparking public outrage and calls for Paystack to take action. Shortly after the posts went viral, Paystack suspended Olubi and launched an independent investigation into claims of misconduct, including allegations involving a subordinate.
Two Separate Issues, Paystack Says
In its communication, Paystack noted that the termination was based on reputational risk and not the conclusion of the ongoing investigation into workplace misconduct. The company stated that the decision was necessary to maintain public trust.
Olubi Claims Wrongful Termination
Ezra Olubi, in his response, alleged that the company did not allow him an opportunity to defend himself before making its decision. He stressed that the termination violated internal procedures, adding that “lawyers are reviewing the case.”
Investigation Still Ongoing
Paystack has not yet released the final report of the independent investigation. The company, however, assured stakeholders that the allegations are being reviewed objectively and professionally.
The development marks one of the most significant controversies in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem in recent years, involving one of the country’s most prominent fintech founders.
