President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will embark on a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom from March 18 to March 19, marking the first state visit by a Nigerian president to the UK in 37 years.
According to official announcements from the UK Royal Household, President Tinubu accepted an invitation from King Charles III for the historic visit.
He is expected to be received with full state honours at Windsor Castle alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
The visit underscores the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, security, education, and cultural exchange.
The last time a Nigerian president paid a formal state visit to the UK was in 1989, when then-Head of State General Ibrahim Babangida visited the country. The upcoming trip therefore represents a significant moment in Nigeria–UK diplomatic history.
State visits typically include ceremonial receptions, official meetings, and a state banquet hosted by the British monarch. Analysts believe the visit could open new discussions on economic partnerships and strategic collaboration between both nations.
More details regarding the official schedule and key agreements expected to be discussed are anticipated in the coming days.
