Terrorists Launch Attack on Military Base in Borno, Troops Repel Assault

By Erewunmi Peace

Armed terrorists on Thursday launched a coordinated attack on a Nigerian military base in Borno State, triggering intense fighting before security forces successfully repelled the assault.

According to military and security sources, the attackers, believed to be insurgents operating in the North-East, attempted to overrun a Forward Operating Base (FOB) using heavy gunfire and other weapons. Troops at the base resisted the attack and maintained control of the facility.

The Nigerian Army said the terrorists were forced to retreat after encountering strong resistance from ground troops, supported by air operations during pursuit efforts. Several weapons, ammunition, and other items were reportedly recovered following the clash.

While some online reports claimed that “scores” were killed, official sources have not confirmed specific casualty figures, particularly regarding military personnel. Security authorities have urged the public to rely on verified information as operations and assessments continue.

Military officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining counter-terrorism operations in the North-East and assured residents that efforts to secure the region remain ongoing.

More details are expected as authorities provide further updates.
