Panic erupted on Tuesday morning as an Abuja-Kaduna passenger train derailed along its route, causing widespread concern among commuters. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed the incident, which occurred at approximately 11:09 a.m. at Kilometre 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.
Although no official casualty figures have been released, eyewitnesses reported that several carriages were affected. Emergency response teams, including medical personnel, security operatives, and rescue officials, have been deployed to the scene. Nearby hospitals have also been placed on standby.
In an official statement, the NRC assured that evacuation efforts are ongoing and that passengers are being transported back to Abuja safely. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of all passengers and have activated our emergency response protocols,” the corporation stated.
The cause of the derailment is yet to be determined, but authorities have promised a thorough investigation. This latest incident is expected to raise further questions about the safety of Nigeria’s rail infrastructure, particularly along the Abuja-Kaduna corridor.
This is a developing story. More details will follow as they become available.
