Anambra Government Abolishes Monday School Closures, Warns of Sanctions
By Erewunmi Peace
The Anambra State Government has officially abolished the closure of schools on Mondays across the state, bringing an end to the lingering effects of the sit-at-home practice.
The directive was issued through the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) and communicated to school authorities, teachers, and non-teaching staff.
According to the government, all public schools are expected to operate fully on Mondays, effective immediately.
The government also warned that sanctions would be applied to defaulters. Teachers and staff who fail to report for duty on Mondays without official approval risk salary deductions, while repeated absence could attract more severe disciplinary measures.
This move is part of the state government’s efforts to restore normal academic activities and improve productivity, following years of disruptions linked to sit-at-home orders in parts of the South-East.
Residents and school administrators have been urged to comply with the directive, as the government insists it will no longer tolerate unofficial closures of schools or government offices.
