NDLEA Arrests 65 Suspects in Abia, Secures 7 Convictions

The Abia State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 65 suspects in connection with various drug-related offenses between June and August 2025.
The State Commander, Joseph Owoputi, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Umuahia. He revealed that the command seized 82 kilograms of illicit drugs, including cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, and other psychotropic substances during the period under review.
According to Owoputi, seven suspects have been prosecuted and convicted, while 12 others are currently facing prosecution. He also noted that 38 individuals arrested for drug use are undergoing counseling and rehabilitation at the command’s facility.
The NDLEA boss reiterated the agency’s commitment to the ongoing “War Against Drug Abuse (WADA)” campaign, aimed at curbing drug abuse and trafficking in Abia State. He appealed to residents to provide credible information that could aid the agency in its operations.
Owoputi also commended the Abia State Government for its support, revealing that Governor Alex Otti has approved operational vehicles to enhance NDLEA’s activities in the state.
“We will continue to intensify our fight against illicit drugs through arrests, prosecutions, and rehabilitation programs,” Owoputi assured.
