Presidency Slams Peter Obi, Labels Him “Commander-In-Chief of Falsehood”

By Erewunmi Peace

The political atmosphere heated up again this week as the Presidency, through its Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, issued a scathing rebuke against Labour Party chieftain and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, labeling him the “Commander-in-Chief of misinformation, disinformation and falsehood.”

The sharp criticism follows Obi’s recent claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has accumulated more debt in one year than the total incurred by former presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan, and Buhari combined.

Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Bwala did not mince words:

“Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Commander-in-Chief of misinformation, disinformation, and falsehood; Peter ‘Gbajue’ Obi…”

Bwala further accused Obi of spreading inaccurate economic data and misleading the public for political gain. He described the former Anambra governor as “relegated” politically, stating that the Labour Party leader had become a shadow of his 2023 campaign persona.

Background:

Peter Obi had earlier faulted the Tinubu administration’s borrowing patterns, stating that Nigeria was on the verge of economic collapse due to excessive debt accumulation. He urged the federal government to adopt more prudent fiscal policies and address the cost of governance.

However, the Presidency responded swiftly, dismissing Obi’s allegations as false, inflammatory, and designed to stir public discontent.

Public Reactions:

While Obi’s supporters have defended his statements, insisting that he merely spoke the truth based on available data, pro-government analysts have sided with Bwala, accusing the former governor of playing to the gallery.

Political observers believe the exchange signals renewed tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition figures continue to challenge the Tinubu-led administration’s policies.

As of press time, Peter Obi has not issued an official response to Bwala’s remarks.
