Senior officials of the United States government have visited Nigeria amid growing international concern over recent security challenges, including reports of attacks and abductions affecting Christian communities, particularly in parts of Kaduna State.
The visit formed part of a high-level U.S.–Nigeria security engagement, during which American officials met with Nigerian government representatives to discuss civilian protection, counter-terrorism cooperation, and religious freedom.
During the meetings, U.S. officials expressed concern over recent incidents involving the abduction of worshippers from churches and other acts of violence targeting civilians.
They urged Nigerian authorities to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities, investigate reported attacks, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The discussions also focused on enhancing collaboration between both countries in areas such as intelligence sharing, security sector reform, and protection of human rights. U.S. officials emphasized that safeguarding civilians, regardless of religious or ethnic background, remains critical to Nigeria’s long-term stability.
Nigerian officials, on their part, reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing insecurity across the country.
They acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and assured the delegation that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue abducted victims and prevent further attacks.
The visit comes amid heightened global attention following reports of mass abductions from churches in Kaduna State, incidents that have drawn condemnation from international bodies and foreign governments.
