Abia State Governor Alex Otti has signed into law the Senior Citizens Support Bill, a legislative initiative aimed at improving the welfare of residents aged 60 years and above.

The law provides for monthly stipends, access to free healthcare at public health facilities, and priority access to government services for eligible senior citizens. It is part of Governor Otti’s broader agenda to strengthen social protection and enhance the quality of life for elderly residents in the state.
Governor Otti described the bill as a landmark development, emphasizing the government’s commitment to caring for the elderly and ensuring their dignity and well-being.

The bill also establishes a framework for monitoring and implementing the provisions effectively, ensuring that benefits reach the intended beneficiaries in a transparent and efficient manner.

This move has been widely welcomed by residents and advocacy groups as a significant step toward supporting senior citizens and promoting social equity in Abia State.
