Abdullahi Saleh Usman Resigns as NAHCON Chairman

By Erewunmi Peace

Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman has resigned from his position as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

His resignation was confirmed on Monday, February 10, 2026, bringing an end to his tenure at the commission. According to statements released through his media aide, Usman said his decision to step down was based on personal reasons following consultations with his family.

Professor Usman was appointed as NAHCON Chairman in 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During his time in office, he oversaw the coordination and regulation of Hajj operations for Nigerian pilgrims.

His resignation comes amid reports of internal disputes and leadership concerns within the commission in recent months. However, Usman did not directly address those issues in his official statement, maintaining that his decision was personal.

The Federal Government is yet to announce a replacement for the outgoing chairman at the time of filing this report.

More details are expected in the coming days regarding the transition process and the appointment of a new leadership team for the commission.
