We’ll upgrade radar coverage at air force bases and airport – Keyamo
By Erewunmi Peace
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to upgrade radar coverage at airports and Nigerian Air Force bases as part of efforts to strengthen aviation and airspace security nationwide.
The initiative, revealed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, aims to enhance threat detection, expand radar coverage beyond current limits, and integrate modern surveillance systems to better protect the country’s airspace.
As part of the program, the government is engaging with international partners, including Qatar-based defence company Barzan Holdings, to deploy advanced command, control, and counter-drone technologies at critical aviation and military installations.
“The upgraded radar systems will significantly improve our ability to detect and respond to unauthorized aerial activities near airports and Air Force bases, ensuring the safety of our airspace,” the minister stated.
This move aligns with the Federal Government’s broader commitment to modernize Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and strengthen national security measures in the face of evolving aerial threats.
