The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and shut down secret warehouses in Lagos State, seizing more than 10 million doses of counterfeit and banned medicines in a major enforcement operation.
According to the agency, the raid was carried out following credible intelligence reports that led operatives to concealed storage facilities where fake pharmaceutical products were being stockpiled for distribution.
NAFDAC officials disclosed that the confiscated drugs are estimated to be worth over ₦3 billion. The seized items reportedly include counterfeit anti-malarial drugs, antibiotics, injectable medicines, and other banned pharmaceutical products.
The agency described the operation as one of the most significant seizures in recent times, warning that circulation of such fake drugs poses serious health risks to the public and could lead to treatment failure or other complications.
Authorities have assured Nigerians that investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute those responsible for the illegal operation. NAFDAC also reiterated its commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement actions to eliminate counterfeit medicines from the market.
The agency urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious pharmaceutical products to appropriate authorities.
More details are expected as the investigation continues.
