Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied claims that it imports finished petrol (Premium Motor Spirit, PMS) into Nigeria and has vowed to take legal action against those spreading false information.

In a statement released on Monday, the refinery clarified that it only imports feedstocks and intermediate components, which are further processed in-house. The company emphasized that all petrol supplied to the Nigerian market comes directly from its domestic refining operations and meets required quality standards.

The statement followed circulating reports suggesting that Dangote Refinery was importing petrol into Nigeria — a claim the company described as misleading and inaccurate.
Dangote Refinery further announced that it has identified individuals allegedly promoting the false narrative and warned that they would soon “have their day in court.”

This clarification comes amid ongoing efforts by Nigeria’s private and public sectors to boost local refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported fuel, a move seen as critical to stabilizing fuel supply and prices across the country.
