No FG Directive to Stop Crackdown on Satchet Alcohol – NAFDAC

By Erewunmi Peace

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied reports claiming that the Federal Government directed it to suspend enforcement of the ban on sachet and small-sized alcoholic beverages.

In an official statement, the agency clarified that it has not received any formal communication from the Federal Government instructing it to halt its ongoing enforcement activities.
NAFDAC described the reports circulating online as false and misleading, emphasizing that it continues to operate strictly within its statutory mandate.

The agency reaffirmed that the restriction on sachet alcohol and small PET bottle alcoholic products remains in effect as part of broader public health and regulatory measures. It urged members of the public, stakeholders, and industry operators to rely only on verified official communications from the agency.

The development follows widespread media reports suggesting that the government had ordered a pause in the enforcement drive — a claim NAFDAC has now firmly rejected.
