By Erewunmi Peace
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to collaborate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to tackle vote-buying and electoral corruption ahead of upcoming elections.
INEC stated that the partnership aims to strengthen enforcement against bribery in the electoral process, ensuring that voters can make informed choices free from undue influence.
Officials emphasized that any act of vote-buying or inducement will be treated as a serious criminal offence, and perpetrators will face legal consequences under existing Nigerian laws.
The commission also highlighted plans for public awareness campaigns and enhanced monitoring mechanisms at polling units to detect and prevent electoral malpractices.
This initiative reflects Nigeria’s continued efforts to promote transparency, credibility, and integrity in elections, reinforcing the importance of democratic principles in the country.
