In a major political development, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has relieved all commissioners and special advisers of their appointments, effectively dissolving the State Executive Council.

The governor’s directive, signed by his new Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, instructs outgoing officials to hand over their responsibilities to permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their ministries immediately.

Governor Fubara thanked the outgoing commissioners and advisers for their service and wished them success in future endeavors. The move is seen as part of a broader effort to restructure the state’s executive leadership and pave the way for new appointments.

Political analysts suggest that the action may also be aimed at streamlining government operations and ensuring smoother coordination between ministries during ongoing state projects and initiatives.

“All commissioners and special advisers are to immediately hand over to permanent secretaries or senior officers,” the statement read, emphasizing continuity in governance despite the reshuffle.

The state government has not yet announced when a new Executive Council will be appointed, but observers expect new nominations in the coming weeks.
