Erection of Road Bumps Without Approval Now an Offence in Ekiti — Commissioner

By Erewunmi Peace

The Ekiti State Government has declared that erecting road bumps without official approval from the Ministry of Works is now a punishable offence.

The announcement was made by Sola Adebayo, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Works, who emphasized that all road infrastructure, including speed bumps, must be approved and supervised by ministry engineers to ensure safety and compliance with state regulations.

“The erection of road bumps or any road modifications without proper approval is illegal and will attract sanctions under state laws,” Adebayo stated.

The commissioner further warned communities and individuals against unauthorised road works that could damage state roads or endanger motorists.

The move is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance road safety, reduce accidents, and maintain the integrity of public infrastructure across Ekiti State. Officials also noted that approved road bumps are designed to protect both motorists and pedestrians, unlike unplanned or illegally erected bumps.

The ministry urged residents to report any unapproved road bumps to local authorities to ensure compliance and safeguard public safety.
