A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has been killed following a deadly ambush by suspected bandits in Katsina State.

The incident occurred in Rimi Local Government Area when armed assailants reportedly attacked a community and rustled cattle. Security operatives were said to have responded swiftly to distress calls before engaging the attackers in a gun battle.

During the exchange, the DPO lost his life while leading his team in the operation. Several other security personnel sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

According to security sources, some of the suspected bandits were neutralized during the confrontation, while others fled the scene.

Authorities have since reinforced security presence in the area and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and restore calm.

The Katsina State Police Command is yet to release a detailed official statement at the time of filing this report.
