Gov Yusuf’s Alleged Defection Sparks Reactions as Omokri Dismisses Opposition Chances in 2027

By Erewunmi Peace

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has stirred political debate following reports surrounding the alleged defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing opposition efforts to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 as “delusional.”

Omokri made the remark while reacting to reports suggesting that Governor Yusuf had defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a development that has continued to generate mixed reactions within Nigeria’s political space.

According to Omokri, the growing influence of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), coupled with support from sitting governors, places President Tinubu in a strong position ahead of the next general election.

He argued that recent political movements show that the opposition lacks the structure and unity required to unseat the current administration.

However, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from Governor Abba Yusuf or the Kano State Government regarding a formal defection to the APC. Key figures within the NNPP have also not issued an official statement confirming the development.

Political analysts note that while defections are common in Nigeria’s political landscape, especially ahead of major elections, statements predicting electoral outcomes remain opinions rather than established facts.

The alleged defection has nonetheless intensified discussions about Kano State’s political direction and the broader implications for the 2027 presidential election, with stakeholders urging the public to rely on verified information from official sources.
