A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of six final-year students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). The students, all enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing Science (Open and Distance Learning) programme, were traveling to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, for their final examinations when the fatal crash occurred.

According to reports, the accident happened along a major highway as the students were en route to their examination center. Among the victims was a student who was reportedly heavily pregnant at the time of the crash.

The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief from the university community and professional bodies, including the Nigerian Nurses Forum, which described the event as a “devastating loss” for the students’ families, the university, and the nursing profession.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, while emergency response teams have been working to assist the victims’ families and handle the aftermath.

This tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance while traveling. LAUTECH and affiliated student organizations are expected to release official statements regarding support for the affected families in the coming days.
