Dr. Pedro Agbonifo Obaseki, popularly known as Don Pedro Obaseki and a relative of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has initiated legal proceedings following an abduction and assault incident in Benin City, Edo State.

According to reports from multiple Nigerian media outlets, Don Pedro was reportedly abducted and physically assaulted in late December 2025.

Videos said to have circulated on social media showed scenes from the incident, sparking widespread reactions and condemnation from political stakeholders and civil society groups.

In response to the incident, Don Pedro and members of his family have filed a suit in court, seeking legal redress and accountability over what they describe as a violation of his fundamental human rights.

The family has retained prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), to lead the legal team handling the matter.

Falana is widely known for representing clients in high-profile human rights and constitutional cases across Nigeria.

While details of the case are still unfolding, advocacy groups and political figures have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and assault.
