Kano Orders Closure of Entertainment Venues Ahead of Ramadan

By Erewunmi Peace

The Kano State Government has directed the closure of all entertainment venues across the state ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

The directive, issued by the Kano State Censorship Board, aims to ensure that residents observe the fasting period in peace and engage in religious activities without disturbance.

The closure affects a wide range of establishments, including gala houses, nightclubs, and DJ-operated entertainment centres.

According to the board, the suspension of operations began at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will remain in effect throughout Ramadan.

In a statement, the board said the measure is intended to maintain public order and promote spiritual reflection during the fasting season.

It also emphasized that compliance is mandatory, and violations could attract sanctions under the state’s regulatory framework.

Officials noted that the reopening of entertainment venues, especially for Eid‑el‑Fitr festivities, will be communicated closer to the end of Ramadan.

The directive has sparked discussions on social media, with residents expressing support for the measure as a way to foster a calm environment for worship, while some entertainment operators are concerned about the economic impact of the temporary closure.
