The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cancelled 485 land titles in Abuja after they failed official verification checks conducted by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). The move is part of ongoing efforts to curb fraudulent and irregular land allocations within the capital.

According to the FCTA, the cancelled documents were submitted for regularisation but did not pass authenticity and genuineness checks carried out by the Department of Land Administration and the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS). Many of the titles were found to be forged, duplicated, or otherwise irregular.

Areas Affected

The affected land titles span several Area Councils, including Bwari, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and Kuje, and cover layouts such as Ushafa Extension, Dawaki Extension 1, Kurudu‑Jikwoyi Relocation, Sabon Lugbe, and Lugbe I Extension. Organisations impacted include the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Ministry of Justice Staff Multi‑Purpose Cooperative Society.

Government Rationale

The FCTA emphasised that the cancellations are part of broader land administration reforms aimed at improving transparency, preventing double allocations, and securing genuine land ownership for residents. Officials said the action will also help strengthen the integrity of Abuja’s land registry system.

Wike and the FCTA have urged members of the public and organisations to submit only genuine land documents for verification to avoid similar cancellations in the future.
