Court Fixes Date for El-Rufai’s Arraignment Over Alleged Cybercrime Charges

By Erewunmi Peace

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed February 25, 2026, for the arraignment of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged cybercrime-related offences.

The case, filed by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS), is scheduled to be heard before Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court.

Details of the Charges
According to court documents, El-Rufai is facing a three-count charge bordering on:

Alleged unlawful interception of telephone communications.

Failure to report knowledge of an alleged communication breach.

Alleged actions said to compromise national security.

The charges are reportedly linked to statements he made during a televised interview concerning alleged phone interceptions involving the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Legal sources indicate that the case was filed under provisions of Nigeria’s cybercrime and communications laws.

However, El-Rufai has not yet been formally arraigned, and the court is expected to hear the matter on the scheduled date.

Legal Position

As of the time of filing this report, the former governor has not publicly entered a plea. Under Nigerian law, all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.

More details are expected as the case proceeds.
