FUT Minna Students, Staff Protest Alleged Plan to Acquire Bosso Campus Land

By Erewunmi Peace

Students and staff of Federal University of Technology Minna (FUT Minna) have staged a protest over an alleged plan by the Niger State Government to acquire land belonging to the institution’s Bosso Campus.

The protest, which involved members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), lecturers, and students, took place within the university premises as demonstrators expressed concerns over what they described as a proposed takeover of federal university property.

The protesters claim that the Bosso Campus land is owned by the Federal Government and is currently being used for academic and administrative purposes.

They argued that any move to revoke or reallocate the land could disrupt academic activities and undermine the autonomy of the institution.

The alleged acquisition plan has been linked to the administration of Mohammed Umaru Bago, though, as of the time of filing this report, no official statement confirming a finalized takeover has been publicly released by the state government.

Call for Dialogue

Members of the university community have called for dialogue and clarity from relevant authorities to prevent further tension.

They emphasized the need to protect educational infrastructure and ensure that due process is followed in any land-related decisions.

Further updates are expected as discussions continue between university authorities and the Niger State Government.
