Four Dead, 18 Injured in Stampede During Zakkat Distribution in Katsina

Tragedy struck in Katsina State on 26 February 2026 as a stampede occurred during the distribution of Ramadan Zakkat (charity/alms) at a residence in Kofar Guga Quarters, Katsina metropolis.
According to eyewitnesses and police reports, a large crowd gathered to receive the Zakkat, and as people rushed into the compound, chaos ensued. The stampede resulted in the death of four people and left 18 others injured, who were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities have confirmed that the incident is under investigation, and efforts are being made to identify measures to prevent such tragedies during mass charitable distributions in the future.
The victims’ identities have been reported in local sources, though authorities have yet to release detailed statements about the circumstances leading to the stampede. Community leaders have called for more organized and controlled distribution systems during Ramadan to ensure public safety.
