Muslims have been called upon to see fasting in the month of Ramadan beyond mere abstinence from food and drinks.

This admonition was given by an Islamic scholar, Sheik Mudathir Ajileye, in his address at a programme organized to sensitize Muslim youths on the spiritual essence of the month of Ramadan, held at the Ansarudeen Mosque, Ikirun, Osun state.

Ajileye reiterated the importance of Muslims paying serious attention to the condition of their hearts during the 30-day fasting period.
“To fast effectively and receive positive results, we must rid our hearts of malice, bitterness and unforgiving spirit, as these can hinder the true spirit of fasting.” he noted.

He observed that fasting in the month of Ramadan has serious spiritual significance and should not be treated with levity or reduced to mere ritual of avoidance of eating and drinking alone.
In his words, “Fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drinks, but offering it with a heart that pleases Allah. May Allah forgive our shortcomings and accept our fasting, worship and answer our prayers.”

Sheik Ajileye harped on the need for Muslims to perpetually seek knowledge in the course of service to Allah by reading the Quran and other texts from scholars that will guide them on how to pray and heal themselves without having to seek succour outside the confines of the Islamic faith.

He seized the opportunity to present his revised book on prayers titled, “ASH – SHAFA’ U – Healing and Deliverance Prayers” to the gathering, while noting that the book was written as part of his commitment to call others to divine truths and spiritual enlightenment in line with the injunction of Allah.

Ajileye described the book as a guide and companion on prayers and how to seek healing using the Quran.
“The prayer book was revised and expanded to assist Muslims to be focused on their faith through prayers that help them solve the various challenges they encounter in their daily lives, instead of abandoning the faith to seek solutions elsewhere.” He stated
