Nigerian Pilot Raises Concerns Over Ogun $800m Agro-Cargo Airport Runway

By Erewunmi Peace

A Nigerian pilot has publicly criticised the runway at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, claiming it has undulations that could affect landing safety.

The airport, reportedly costing around $800 million, has been the centre of public attention since it received operational approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

In posts circulating on social media and Nigerian news forums, the pilot described the runway surface as uneven, warning that such irregularities could undermine pilot confidence.

While these claims have sparked debate, there is no official confirmation from aviation authorities regarding runway defects.

The Gateway Airport had previously been granted an Interim Aerodrome Operational Permit by the NCAA, indicating it met inspection standards for operation, including runway safety and navigational systems.

Aviation analysts have noted that while pilot feedback is important, runway assessments require formal inspections by regulatory authorities before any conclusions can be drawn about safety risks.

Public calls for an independent review of the runway are growing as discussions continue online.
