The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it recorded over two million registered members within the first week of its ongoing nationwide digital membership registration exercise, with party leaders projecting that the figure could rise to nine million within two weeks.

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, disclosed this while speaking on the progress of the electronic registration initiative, describing the turnout as encouraging and reflective of growing interest in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Basiru, the digital registration exercise was introduced to modernise the party’s membership database, improve transparency, and ensure accurate documentation of members across the country.

He noted that more states are intensifying mobilisation efforts, which he said could significantly increase the number of registered members before the end of the exercise.

The registration process, which is expected to run until January 30, 2026, allows both existing and new members to register electronically using designated platforms.

Party officials say the system will help eliminate duplication, enhance internal democracy, and strengthen party administration.

However, the exercise has attracted criticism from opposition parties, who have questioned the credibility of the figures being announced by the APC.

Some opposition leaders allege that the projections are politically motivated and aimed at shaping public perception ahead of future elections.

Despite the criticism, the APC maintains that the digital registration drive is purely an internal party process designed to strengthen its organisational structure and prepare the party for upcoming political activities.

As the registration continues nationwide, attention remains on whether the ruling party will meet its ambitious target of registering up to nine million members within the projected timeframe.
