Tinubu Appoints First Female Director-General of Nigerian Law School

By Erewunmi Peace

In a historic first, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School (NLS).

Her appointment marks the first time a woman will lead the institution since its founding in 1962.

Dr. Odusote, who currently serves as Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9, 2026. Her four-year term as DG officially begins January 10, 2026.

Speaking on the appointment, government officials praised Dr. Odusote’s extensive experience in legal education, having served in multiple academic and administrative roles at the NLS since 2001.

Her leadership is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the institution, which trains thousands of law graduates across Nigeria each year.

This milestone has been widely celebrated as a step toward gender inclusivity in leadership positions within Nigeria’s legal and educational sectors.
