Court Orders FG to Take Over Jonathan-Era Multi-Billion Housing Estate
By Erewunmi Peace
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the permanent forfeiture of a multi-billion naira housing estate linked to the Goodluck Jonathan administration to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to court documents, the properties—valued in billions of naira—were found to be linked to alleged unlawful activities.
The ICPC argued that the land allocation and project execution violated established regulations, prompting the need for government recovery.
Justice Umar ordered that the forfeited properties be handed over to the Federal Government.
The court also directed the ICPC to supervise the completion of the abandoned housing project in collaboration with relevant authorities, including the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), to ensure the estate serves its original public housing purpose.
The ruling follows an earlier interim forfeiture order issued in July, with the court now making the decision permanent after no successful legal challenge was presented.
The development marks another step in the government’s ongoing efforts to recover public assets and enforce accountability in the management of public resources.
