Wike-Led PDP Faction Holds Abuja Meeting, Demands Court-Approved Convention

By Erewunmi Peace

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike held a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, insisting that the party’s next national convention follow the procedures approved by the Court of Appeal. The meeting comes after the court nullified the 2025 PDP convention held in Ibadan.

According to reports by BusinessDay and NaijaNews, members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) loyal to Wike discussed strategies to ensure the party’s leadership and convention process comply with legal directives. The faction emphasized that any convention outside the court’s ruling would be invalid and could deepen existing divisions within the party.

The meeting underscores the continuing power struggle within the PDP, with rival factions contesting control over party leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections. Political analysts note that unresolved disputes may affect the party’s organizational stability and electoral prospects.

At the time of reporting, leaders from other PDP factions had not publicly commented on the Abuja meeting. Party stakeholders are expected to continue negotiations and legal consultations in the coming days.
