Rivers Assembly Confirms Five Commissioner Nominees, Rejects Four Submitted by Fubara
By Erewunmi Peace
The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed five out of nine commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while rejecting four others after a screening exercise.
The nominees appeared before the Assembly for screening at the legislative complex in Port Harcourt, where lawmakers assessed their qualifications, experience, and readiness to serve in the state executive council.
Following the exercise, the Assembly approved five of the nominees, allowing them to proceed to the next stage of appointment as commissioners in the Rivers State Government.
However, four nominees were rejected during the screening process. Reports indicate that the decision was based on concerns raised by lawmakers regarding documentation issues and responses provided during the screening session.
The nominees rejected by the Assembly include Prof. Datonye Alasia, Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree.
The five confirmed nominees are expected to be sworn in by Governor Fubara in the coming days as members of the Rivers State Executive Council.
The development highlights the constitutional role of the State House of Assembly in reviewing and confirming executive appointments to ensure qualified individuals occupy key government positions.
Further reactions are expected from the Rivers State Government regarding the outcome of the screening exercise.
