APC Chieftain says Opposition Unprepared, Not Organized

By Erewunmi Peace

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has observed that opposition parties in Nigeria are in disarray and unprepared to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Tolu Bankole, a member of the APC National Working Committee, said internal divisions and lack of coordination among opposition parties give the APC a significant advantage heading into the next election cycle.

He highlighted what he described as “persistent leadership crises” within several opposition parties, claiming these issues could hinder their ability to mount effective campaigns against the APC.

Bankole also praised the current administration’s achievements, saying they provide the ruling party with political leverage and public support that opposition parties have not matched.

While the comments reflect the APC official’s assessment, opposition parties have not agreed with the characterisation, with some maintaining they are actively preparing for the 2027 elections and are confident in their strategies.

Political analysts note that remarks of this nature are common in the run-up to major elections, serving as part of broader political messaging by parties and their leaders.

Observers say it remains to be seen how opposition parties will respond and whether they can resolve internal challenges before the 2027 polls.
