The internal crisis within the Labour Party has intensified as members of the party’s State Chairmen Forum criticised Senator Nenadi Usman and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to intervene.

The state chairmen accused the leadership of the caretaker committee headed by Usman of taking steps they claim could further deepen divisions within the party. They urged INEC to closely monitor the situation and take necessary action to maintain order within the party’s structure.

According to reports, the disagreement is part of a broader leadership dispute that has persisted within the Labour Party since the aftermath of the 2023 general elections.

The conflict largely involves factions loyal to the party’s former national chairman, Julius Abure, and those supporting the caretaker committee led by Nenadi Usman.

While the state chairmen have expressed strong concerns over the direction of the party under the caretaker leadership, supporters of the committee insist that their actions are aimed at stabilising the party and preparing it for future political activities.

Meanwhile, political observers say the ongoing disagreement could affect the party’s internal unity if not resolved through dialogue and legal processes.
