PDP Crisis: Wike, Makinde Factions Signal Readiness for Reconciliation After Appeal Court Advice
By Erewunmi Peace
Leaders of two rival factions within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have indicated willingness to explore reconciliation following advice from the Court of Appeal of Nigeria to settle their dispute amicably.
The factions are widely believed to be aligned with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State.
The crisis within the party has been linked to disagreements over party leadership and internal decisions following political developments in the South-West zone.
During a recent court sitting in Ibadan, the appellate court advised both sides to consider resolving their differences outside prolonged legal battles in the interest of party unity.
Following the court’s advice, representatives from the opposing camps reportedly expressed readiness to engage in dialogue aimed at restoring peace within the party.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to allow room for reconciliation efforts between the factions.
Political observers say the development could mark a significant step toward resolving the lingering leadership crisis within the PDP, especially as preparations for future elections continue.
However, analysts note that while both sides have shown willingness to negotiate, a final resolution to the dispute has not yet been reached.
