JAMB Disowns Law Admissions at Lead City University Over CAPS Violation
By Erewunmi Peace
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has declared that it does not recognise the admission of students into the Law programme at Lead City University, Ibadan, stating that the admissions were not processed through its official platform, the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
JAMB explained that all tertiary institution admissions in Nigeria must be processed through CAPS to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper documentation of candidates’ admission status.
According to the examination body, the admissions offered into the university’s Law programme were conducted outside the CAPS platform, making them invalid under the national admission guidelines.
The board further noted that the Law programme at Lead City University is currently under suspension by the Council of Legal Education, the regulatory body responsible for legal education in Nigeria.
Due to this development, JAMB warned prospective students and candidates seeking admission into universities to always verify their admission status through CAPS before accepting any offer from an institution.
The board emphasised that admissions that do not appear on CAPS may not be officially recognised, which could create academic and professional challenges for affected students in the future.
Education stakeholders have also urged universities to strictly follow national admission regulations to maintain the integrity of Nigeria’s higher education system.
