The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a nationwide initiative aimed at providing reliable internet connectivity to schools across the country as part of efforts to strengthen digital learning and modernize the education system.

The programme was announced through collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. The initiative seeks to ensure that students and teachers in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions have access to stable internet for learning, research, and digital skills development.
According to the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, the project will help integrate technology into classrooms and improve access to digital resources that support modern education.

Similarly, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, explained that the government plans to expand broadband infrastructure to support the initiative. This includes the rollout of thousands of kilometers of fibre-optic cables and additional telecommunications infrastructure across the country.

The government noted that the project will be implemented in phases, with priority given to underserved and rural communities where access to digital tools and internet services remains limited.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting that improved connectivity in schools will enhance online learning, research opportunities, and students’ access to global educational resources.

If successfully implemented, the programme is expected to significantly improve digital literacy among students and prepare them for participation in the global digital economy.
