Nine senators in the Nigerian Senate have reportedly defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that has positioned the party as the largest minority bloc in the upper legislative chamber.

Among the prominent lawmakers leading the defection are Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Ireti Kingibe.
The development was formally announced during plenary at the Nigerian Senate, where letters from the defecting senators were read.

Reports indicate that the lawmakers cited internal disagreements and divisions within their former political parties as reasons for their decision to join the ADC.
Political analysts say the move could significantly alter the balance of power among minority parties in the Senate and may influence legislative negotiations going forward.
The ADC, which previously held fewer seats in the chamber, now leads the minority bloc following the latest defections.
